Existentia Films

Two filmmakers,
one shared vision

We’re Henria and Catarina, the people behind Existentia Films: an independent film and photography studio in Santa Cruz, near Lisbon. We create documentaries, brand films and photography for people and organisations across Portugal and internationally.

Founded in 2022, our studio grew from independent documentaries into collaborations with brands and organisations. Our approach remains the same: telling real stories with care, listening closely and finding the human perspective behind each project.

Why Existentia

Our name comes from the Latin existentia, meaning existence or ‘the state of being’. For us, it raises questions about what gives life meaning, how we grow as individuals, and how that growth shapes our contribution to the world. These questions brought us together and remain at the heart of the stories we choose to tell.

Through documentary filmmaking, we give a voice to people challenging themselves and organisations moving things forward. Sharing their stories is our way of helping meaningful initiatives grow and inspiring others to find their own path.

The people behind your film

You work directly with both of us, from the first conversation to delivery. As a team of two, we keep communication simple and bring care and flexibility to every project.

What guides our work

These principles shape how we connect with people, collaborate with you and tell each story, from our first conversation to the final film.

Authenticity

We bring honesty and openness to the way we work and connect with people, creating films that stay true to who you are and what you stand for.

Empathy

We take time to understand how others feel and what they need, helping people feel at ease with us and comfortable sharing their story in front of the camera.

Sensitivity

We bring sensitivity to people and to our craft, respecting what each story holds and finding the images, rhythm and music that express its emotion with care.

“Thank you for truly listening and capturing our essence so beautifully. You made us feel comfortable throughout the entire process, and we’re so grateful for your heartfelt work and creativity!”
